DIY  Filing Cabinet Make Over


So excited to take my new filing cabinet to work tomorrow.  I didn't sand or prime.  Too much work. Used two cans of Rustoleum vintage blush.

This one is from a couple of years ago.  

Class Rules Student Centered

I'm making posters for next year.   I realized my class rules were not going to be student centered. So I changed them!

I learned a long time ago that these aren't class rules, they are "essential agreements."  We should write our essential agreements at the beginning of the year. That is, students should make behavior "I" statements and we should put them up as a class.  I might add those and put them around my poster. Here is an example of that

Imitation Game

We finished final exams and still have two more periods left in the year.  I decided to show the Oscar nominated film the Imitation Game. It's very hard to find a math movie that is relevant to students.  I was so excited when I saw this in the theater last fall.  I kept praying it was classroom friendly and I was relieved to see it was PG 13.

This morning I decided to google "Imitation Game Activity" and found this site:

I tweaked the worksheet and found other websites that will allow me to change the message. Maybe next year I will add my own custom class message.

I also thought that next year I can do a cross curricular mini unit with AP/US History or History of WII class.

P.S.

We also had a breakfast themed party!  Great idea for a class that starts at the beginning of the day.
We had donuts, bagels, mcmuffins, bacon, fruit, cereal, OJ, and milk. What a great party!  I heard it made it onto snapchat (I let them take pictures of our buffet.)

We're back from CST's!

FINAL PROJECT TIME FRAME:

Week 1 May 21st - May 25th
Monday:  Students will be assigned project. Students will do asset mapping of their community using a free version of GIS software.  Goal for the day: Students will map 12 different types of buildings that serve the community. They will choose one type for their project.

Tuesday: Students will go on a field trip to Cal Poly Pomona - Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies Goal for the day: Students will learn about strategies people use to design buildings that reuse waste and save energy.

Wednesday: Short Day - Goal: Students will get started sketching their building

Thursday: .  Maria Gomez (M.Arch) will teach the basics of model making. Goal for the day: Students will get started on building models.

Friday: Students will continue working on scale model project. Visitor Nicole Velasquez will teach about affordable housing and green buildings. Goal for the day: Students will learn about affordable housing and will make changes to their building from ideas they gather from Ms. Velasquez' buildings. They will also have  a short quiz on green structures.

Week 2 - May 28 - June 1st
Monday: Students will have time to finish their 3d Models

Tuesday: Engineer Mr. Kit Wong will come and teach us the basics about working with Google Sketch.  Students will work on a digital design.

Project Due: Friday June 1st 2012.
